The University of Houston and Rice University spend far less on athletic department expenditures than many other Division 1 colleges.
The Memphis Business Journal, an affiliated publication, gathered athletic department spending data for all Division 1 colleges from the U.S. Department of Education’s Equality in Athletics statistics.
